TRAININGS AND WEBINARS

Practical professional development for therapists who want to feel more confident in the therapy room.

There can be a big gap between learning a therapeutic model and actually knowing how to use it with the person sitting in front of you.

My trainings are designed to help bridge that gap.

Psychology Laine offers practical, clinician-focused training for psychologists, therapists and other mental health professionals, with a particular focus on Schema Therapy, complex presentations and experiential work.

Upcoming Webinar - Working with Modes: From Theory to the Therapy Room

A Practical 4-Part Schema Therapy Webinar Series

4, 11, 18 & 25 November 2026 | 7:00–8:30pm AEDT | Live Online

Founding Offer: $349 AUD for the complete series

You’ve learned Schema Therapy. You understand the theory. But actually doing it in the therapy room can feel like a completely different skill.

Which mode is active? What's happening underneath it? Do I validate? Empathically confront? Use imagery? Chair work? Limited reparenting?

And what do I actually say?

With so many moving parts, it's easy to get caught up trying to "do Schema Therapy correctly" rather than feeling confident about what your client needs from you in the moment.

If this sounds familiar, you're not alone.

It's something I hear regularly from students, supervisees and other clinicians. And it's one of the reasons I'm so passionate about helping therapists bridge the gap between understanding the model and actually using it in clinical practice.

Introducing Working with Modes: From Theory to Therapy Room

A practical four-part training series designed for clinicians who have some familiarity with Schema Therapy but feel overwhelmed trying to bring all the pieces together.

Across four connected live sessions, we'll move from making sense of the mode model to recognising mode activation and, importantly, knowing what to actually do once you've spotted it.

We'll explore working with Child, Coping and Critic modes, strengthening Healthy Adult, and integrating experiential techniques and limited reparenting based on what's happening with your client.

Rather than feeling like you need to choose from a giant toolbox of Schema Therapy techniques, we'll focus on understanding the therapeutic task and making more informed decisions about what to do next.

Less "I've identified the mode." More "I understand what might be happening and how I can respond."

What we'll cover

01 | 4 November — Making Sense of Schema Modes

Bring the different parts of the model together. Understand how schemas, unmet needs, coping responses and modes relate to one another, and how the mode model can guide your clinical work.

02 | 11 November — Mode Spotting & Knowing What to Do Next

Learn to recognise mode activation in session, make sense of what's happening underneath and move from identifying a mode to deciding on your next therapeutic step.

03 | 18 November — Working with Child & Coping Modes

Explore how to connect with vulnerability, work with protective coping responses, use limited reparenting and consider experiential interventions in the context of the client's needs.

04 | 25 November — Working with Critic Modes & Strengthening Healthy Adult

Explore how demanding and punitive critic modes present, practical ways of responding to them, and how to support clients in developing a stronger Healthy Adult.

What makes this series different?

I don't want you to finish another training with pages of notes but still feel unsure about what to do with your next client.

I want us to talk about what this work actually looks like.

The moments you get stuck. The uncertainty about which intervention to use. The times a client responds differently from what you expected. And the things that don't always look as straightforward in practice as they do in a textbook.

Throughout the series, we'll use clinical examples, practical therapist language, case discussions and reflection activities to help you connect what you're learning to your own clinical work.

Each session builds on the previous one, giving you the opportunity to develop your understanding and apply what you're learning as we progress.

The aim isn't to give you more theory to memorise. It's to help you feel more confident using what you already know.

What's included?

  • Four live, interactive 90-minute online training sessions

  • Six hours of live professional development training before the end of the current psychology CPD year

  • Q&A and clinical discussion in each session

  • Access to session recordings for 90 days following the final webinar

  • Downloadable training slides and practical resources

  • Mode-mapping and clinical decision-making resources

  • Between-session reflection and clinical application activities

  • Certificate documenting your participation

Who is this series for?

This series is designed for psychologists, psychotherapists, counsellors, social workers and other mental health clinicians who have some foundational understanding of Schema Therapy and want to develop greater confidence applying the model.

You don't need to know every mode or feel confident using every experiential technique.

But some familiarity with Schema Therapy concepts will help you get the most out of the training.

Your facilitator

Cienna Baker | Clinical Psychologist, Board-Approved Supervisor & Advanced Certified Schema Therapist and Supervisor

Through my clinical work, supervision and university teaching, I've seen how challenging it can be for therapists to move from understanding a model to knowing how to use it in the room.

My approach to training is practical, down-to-earth and focused on clinical application. I want clinicians to feel comfortable asking questions, acknowledging uncertainty and developing their own confidence in the work.

Teaching & Trainings

Alongside private practice, I have worked extensively in postgraduate psychology education, including lecturing and unit coordination within the Master of Clinical Psychology program at Federation University Australia.

My teaching has included advanced clinical interventions, particularly Schema Therapy and DBT, and this experience has strongly influenced the way I now develop professional training.

I know what it's like to sit through professional development, understand everything being presented, take pages of notes…and then return to work on Monday and wonder how any of it translates to the client sitting in front of you.

So my trainings are intentionally designed around the gap between learning a model and actually practising it.

What My Trainings Cover

Psychology Laine trainings have a particular focus on Schema Therapy and working with complexity, with topics developing around the clinical challenges therapists encounter once they move beyond introductory theory.

This includes areas such as schema and mode formulation, recognising modes in real time, choosing interventions based on the active mode, working with Child and Coping Modes, working with Punitive and Demanding Critic Modes, imagery rescripting, chair work, therapeutic relationship processes, treatment impasses, complex trauma and integrating Schema Therapy with other approaches such as EMDR.

I also want my training to answer the smaller clinical questions that don't always make it into textbooks:

What does this actually look like in session?
How do I introduce this without sounding awkward?
What do I say next?
What if the client doesn't respond the way the training demonstration suggested they would?
How do I know when to persist, change direction or stop?

For that reason, my trainings incorporate clinical examples, formulation, therapist language and practical demonstrations wherever possible.

How I think About Therapist Development

I don't think becoming a confident therapist means reaching a point where you always know exactly what to do.

Complex therapy doesn't work like that.

I think confidence comes from developing a strong enough understanding of formulation, process and the therapeutic relationship that you can tolerate not immediately knowing — stay curious about what is happening — and make thoughtful clinical decisions from there.

Whether I'm supervising, teaching or developing a training, that's ultimately what I'm trying to help therapists build: not just more knowledge, but greater confidence using that knowledge when therapy gets complicated.

Webinar & Training FAQs

Who are the webinars for?
Psychology Laine webinars are designed primarily for psychologists, counsellors, social workers and other mental health professionals. You do not need to be an accredited Schema Therapist to attend Schema Therapy webinars unless otherwise specified.

Can I count the webinar towards my CPD?
Psychologists may be able to include Psychology Laine training as part of their CPD where the activity is relevant to their individual learning plan and professional development needs. You remain responsible for determining whether a particular activity meets the requirements of your profession, registration body or professional association.

Will I receive a CPD certificate?
Yes. Participants will receive a certificate of attendance/completion showing the training title, date and duration to assist with CPD record keeping. A certificate confirms participation in the training; it does not represent a formal qualification or accreditation unless this is specifically stated.

Do I have to attend live?
No. While attending live gives you the opportunity to participate and ask questions, webinars are recorded so you can watch the training at a time that suits you.

How long will I have access to the recording?
You will have access to the webinar recording and accompanying materials for [I’d suggest 90 days] following the live webinar. This gives you plenty of time to catch up if you cannot attend live or revisit the content afterwards, without Psychology Laine needing to provide indefinite hosting and access.

What do I receive when I register?
Registration includes access to the live webinar, the webinar recording for the specified access period, any accompanying handouts or resources, and a certificate of attendance/completion.

Can I ask questions during the webinar?
Yes. Live webinars include opportunities to ask questions relevant to the training content. To protect confidentiality, please do not include information that could identify a client when asking case-related questions.

Can I share the recording or resources with colleagues?
No. Registration is for individual use unless an organisational or group licence has been arranged. Webinar recordings, slides and accompanying resources remain the intellectual property of Psychology Laine and should not be copied, distributed, recorded or shared with others.

What happens if I register but can't attend?
That's completely fine. If the webinar includes recording access, you can watch the recording during the advertised access period.

Are Psychology Laine trainings accredited?
Unless specifically stated on the individual training, Psychology Laine webinars are professional development activities rather than accredited qualifications or certification programs. Completing a webinar does not provide Schema Therapy accreditation or authorisation to describe yourself as an accredited Schema Therapist.
