No. You can see a psychologist privately without a referral. A valid referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan are required if you would like to claim a Medicare rebate

Initial appointments are generally 90 minutes. Standard therapy appointments are 50 minutes. EMDR Intensives are structured differently and are discussed individually.

Yes. Sessions may be provided via telehealth where this is clinically appropriate. You will need a private space, a suitable device and a reliable internet connection.

Most clients begin with weekly or fortnightly appointments, although this depends on your needs, treatment plan and availability.

Psychology Laine requires 2 business days’ notice to cancel or reschedule without charge. Appointments cancelled or rescheduled within 1 business day, or missed appointments, incur 100% of the scheduled consultation fee. Cancellation fees may be reduced or waived at your psychologist’s discretion in exceptional or unforeseen circumstances.

Please let us know where possible. If you arrive late, your appointment will still finish at the scheduled time and the full fee applies. A 20-minute grace period is provided; after this, the appointment may be treated as a non-attendance and the full session applies.

Eligible clients may be able to claim Medicare or private health insurance rebates. Your eligibility and rebate amount depend on your referral, available Medicare sessions or private health cover.

If you are attending under a Medicare referral, Medicare requires your psychologist to provide treatment updates to your referring practitioner and to request additional sessions when relevant. Other information is generally shared with your consent unless disclosure is authorised or required by law.
